Nancy Kalos Obituary

Nancy was born in Ponce, Puerto Rico on April 13, 1947. She moved to the Bronx when she was 12, and later met the love of her life John Kalos, while working as a waitress in a coffee shop in downtown Manhattan. They wed on May 1st 1965 and together they created a beautiful family.

Nancy was a stay at home mom who dedicated her days and nights taking care of her family. She often had the chance to travel with her husband John, who was a trucker driver. They traveled all over the United States and she loved and enjoyed her time with him. When she was not on the road with him she was back home being a mother, which takes on all different meanings (cook, teacher, nurse, friend). She was someone special to all her children. She always looked out for her children and only wanted the best for them. Sadly she lost her husband in 2011 while on a trip in Atlantic City NJ, and she was left with a broken heart and a complete void. She was married to him for 46 years and grew up with him. He was the love of her life and she missed him dearly.  A year later she was diagnosed with breast cancer and has been fighting this battle for 14 years.

Aside from the love for her family, Nancy's biggest enjoyment was going to Atlantic City because she felt closest to her husband there. For someone who never learned to drive, she found herself in Atlantic City more times than not. It was her “Happy Town”. She met so many people there. If you ever went with her, you soon realized she was like the Mayor. Everyone knew Nancy and genuinely cared about her. She loved the excitement of the casino and had many trips there with her late husband and many of her adult children. Her most recent trip was in early May.

Nancy is survived by her children and their spouses - Margie and Alfred, Anthony, Alex and Diana, John and Beth, Jasmine, Helen and Louie, Michaeal and Nancy; who have given her a number of beautiful grandchildren - Kevin, Allison, Alex, Nick, AJ, JJ, Andie, Adrianna, Louis, Dylan and Olivia. In addition to this she is survived by her great grandkids Bentley, Ambrose, Sebastian, Adeline and 2 new great grand babies on the way later this year.  As if she didn’t have enough kids, grandkids and great grandkids to share her love, she spent her earlier years babysitting children for countless families in Greenwich Village.  She treated these children as if they were her own.  She loved all of the grandkids and great grandkids.

Nancy was a compassionate and loving mother.  She was a woman with great strength, and most of all a fighter. She took great care of her family and her friends.  She welcomed everyone to her home and always had a plate of food to give you. Everyone who ate there knew she was an excellent cook.  She enjoyed being called Nana, Nanny and Grandma and each one of the kids holds special memories of her. Her story and legacy will be shared with generations to come. She will be missed dearly by all who loved her.
