I was trying to figure out the words to describe the best dad God could have crafted. Words like handsome, funny, smart, resourceful, kind, and generous come to mind. But there's this one recollection that plays in my brain on loop lately.
Some of our fondest memories as kids were family trips to theme parks. From Dorney Park, to Busch Gardens, to Wildwater Kingdom, to Six Flags...the list goes on and on.
But it was a family outing to Coney Island that I'll never forget. I was a small child and the ride was one of those silly little haunted mansions. We all got in line and as we approached the front, my anxiety grew stronger. With each step we inched closer to the entrance of the ride. Then came the tears..."I don't wanna ride this one daddy". Papa took one look at me, leaned down and said "Bhany, if you don't get on this ride, you're never coming back to Coney Island!". It wasn't that he was being mean...he just wanted his children to live a fearless life. To take chances. To challenge ourselves. To learn from mistakes.
So I encourage every one of us to live like he would...to take the leap, and know that the net will appear. To understand that, just like a roller coaster, life will have ups, downs, twists, turns, steep drops and sharp inclines...but to still raise your arms up high and enjoy the ride along the way.
I love you my hero, my papa, my dadoo!
